ROBERT BRUNER: The Bankruptcy Act allows individuals with the help of the creditors, the U.S. trustee and the bankruptcy court to take and pay their bills in an appropriate way without the fear of losing their home, their cars and other assets. I've been practicing bankruptcy law for over 20 years. I maintain offices in Tallahassee, Florida and in Apalachicola, Florida.

ROBERT BRUNER: Bankruptcy is a very effective way of doing debt consolidation with proven results. Chapter 7 is what my clients think as a traditional way of filing bankruptcy. It's a forgiveness of debt.

ROBERT BRUNER: In fact, in Chapter 7 you can keep your principle assets and still have a discharge on your debts.

ROBERT BRUNER: Chapter 13 is a very effective program in which people that have delinquency in their mortgage or a foreclosure or car loans that are in arrears where they can take those delinquencies and put them inside a Chapter 13 plan and be protected. In a Chapter 13, you and the trustee are in control, not the creditors.

I think it's important that people are given the opportunity to have a fresh start rather than be burdened for the rest of their life with unnecessary debt. My goal with every client is to help them put their life back together and reset their course.
